| The Summoned Life|
I am Kayle Rice, the gal from Kalamazoo! Having spent some 30 years in professional endeavors, mostly as a minister (among other things), I'm now "slowing down". You could say that my personal mission statement is to create beauty in the world....and I'm currently figuring out just how I'm going to go about doing that.
I'm married to Brian Leekley, a writer and a wonderer. I'm slave to two cats: Sox and Sabrina. For those of you in the know of certain terminologies of the personality, I'm an Enneagram Seven (with a strong Six Wing), an ENFP (or INFP, depending on the mood) and an Aries. (Blend these three and put some salt on the rim and we'll have a grand time!) I am great-auntie to three adorable babies: Noah, Addison and Alyssa.
I'm a Unitarian Universalist.
My employment at this time is home care aide to home-bound elderly. With the help of my awesome brother, I also assist my elderly parents.
And I'm trying very hard to call myself an artist. I enjoy creative endeavors of all types and true to my Enneagram type, can't seem to focus on just one area of expertise. There are not enough hours in the day for me to do what I want to do!
And on my 62nd birthday four years from now, I'm planning on my "rewirement"; transitioning to four streams of income which includes continuing to work but at far reduced hours, so that more time can be devoted to art-making!
So check out my blog from time to time, ok? Just click the blog button in the upper right corner.
Commentary on art, creativity, and standing on the edge of the 3rd third of life...
The concept of "The Summoned Life" comes from an article by David Brooks discussing two ways of looking at one's life: the planned life and the summoned life. Says Brooks: "The person leading the Summoned Life...asks, 'What are my circumstances asking me to do'?" I first heard the concept in a sermon at my church (thanks Rev. Cassie!) and knew immediately it was a perfect title for my public explorations on my life, my attempt at artistic endeavors, and how well I face and deal with the last third of my life. Welcome! I hope you enjoy walking this journey with me, Please share your thoughts with me as well!
